The Sisterhood of Soccer is a volunteer initiative dedicated to recruiting and mentoring women referees and coaches, and encouraging girls and women to enjoy soccer at all ages.
Mission
We work to:
- Recruit and mentor female referees and coaches
- Encourage girls and women to participate in soccer throughout their lives
- Build community among female soccer participants in Region 13
Background
The Sisterhood of Soccer was founded on October 27, 2019 by Taj Chiu and Caroline Amicone.
Research shows that 94% of female C-suite executives played competitive sports, with over half competing in college. Youth athletic participation provides long-term benefits for girls and women.
The initiative was publicly kicked off at the Celebration of Women’s Soccer on March 18, 2022 at the Rose Bowl, marking Region 13’s 50th year of fielding girls’ soccer teams.
