Back at It! Temps are forecast to be more tolerable this Saturday, so we’re looking forward to an exciting Week 5 of games. It’ll still be pretty hot, so remember to bring plenty of water and provide shade for players during breaks.
This Saturday, our Referee crews will observe Breast Cancer Awareness Month by wearing special pink uniforms for matches at Victory Park, Field 3. Give them an extra cheer when you see them! Pro-tips for the sidelines: Please sit only in designated areas—on the sidelines between the penalty areas. We know it can get hot out there, but a sun umbrella provides great shade, and if you happen to have a large pop-up shade structure, that’ll be a big boost to your whole sideline. Those post-game snacks are the real MVP, but please make sure all juice boxes, orange peels, and wrappers make it into the trash before you roll out.

Pitches in Peril: Fires in Los Angeles is a short documentary from Football For Future exploring how climate change is affecting football across the 2026 FIFA World Cup host nations. At its heart is the story of 16-year-old Nathan Bowser, an AYSO Region 13 alum from Pasadena, California, whose soccer community was deeply affected by the Eaton Fire. Through Nathan’s experience and his project replacing trophies lost in the wildfire, the film explores what football gives communities (from health and friendship to belonging and opportunity) and what can be lost when the places we play are disrupted.
We’re proud of Nathan for sharing his story!

Coaches: It's not too early to start thinking about post-season opportunities to continue playing soccer. AYSO Sections, Areas, and Regions host tournaments year-round. These provide a challenging opportunity to promote player development in a fun and safe environment.

Letter from the Commissioner
Hello everyone,
AYSO is founded on the basic principle of Everyone Plays. For our Fall season, there are no tryouts and no restrictions on where you live or how much soccer experience you have. Region 13 offers tons of scholarships to try to reduce every obstacle to getting a child who wants to play soccer onto a team. The only thing “required” is that everyone pitches in as volunteers to make the season run.
When I walk around the fields on Saturday, I can see that philosophy in the cheers and laughs and smiles of everyone there. We are there because we want to be. The kids want to play soccer, and we have chosen to be part of a larger community that believes sports can bring people together.
This weekend, that community includes families from Region 69 in the Palisades, and we are excited to welcome them. I believe Everyone Plays is what makes AYSO the amazing place it is, especially as we come together on the weekends. And that’s about my favorite part of Soccer Saturday.
What’s your favorite part?
Patrick Shopbell Your volunteer Regional Commissioner
