This Week is Silent Saturday As we head into week 3 of games, it’s time to refocus on what makes AYSO Soccer unlike any other youth sports program.
Silent Saturday, when coaches and parents are asked not to instruct or cheer verbally, gives kids a chance to play a purer form of soccer, free from coaches’ and spectators’ direction from the sidelines.
The reasons we do this are: To emphasize that the game is about letting the kids have fun and play. To show that kids can play well on their own with limited instruction. To help the few parents and coaches who feel they must provide constant direction understand how disruptive it can be. To give players the chance to trust their skills and instincts without sideline input. To encourage leadership skills among players To encourage a sense of true teamwork as players must rely upon one another To support our volunteer referees by eliminating sideline interference and comments.
While coaches and family members are asked to remain silent… clapping is allowed! Be creative in how you choose to cheer your child’s team. There are lots of ways to cheer other than verbally; applaud/clap, but please no horns, whistles, or noise-makers. We’ll be hosting a special sign-making station at Victory Park to help soccer families show their silent appreciation for all the players doing their best on the fields.

NEXT delivers weekly training and scrimmage sessions designed for players in 10U, 12U & 14U to push their limits and try new skills in a casual, pressure-free environment. PICTURE DAYS begin NEXT WEEK The first of our three picture days is next week, October 3, at Victory Park. Teams are scheduled in time slots throughout the day. Players should wear their full uniform (jersey, shorts, socks), and arrive on time for their scheduled slot. Families will receive digital files of their Individual player as well as a team photo. Additional print packages and other items are available for purchase.

Game Management Workshop for PRO Refs
Calling all youth refs: you are invited to a game management workshop. This session will teach the foundations of how to keep emotions in check during a soccer game and how to react to hostile situations involving coaches and parents. Snacks will be provided!

All-Stars is a competitive winter program for advanced players in 10U, 12U, and 14U. Practices are held two days per week, and teams compete on Saturdays and Sundays against teams from across the area, including Glendale, Alhambra, and Arcadia. You can sign up for All-Stars through In-League. |

Letter from the Commissioner
Hello everyone,
I spent time last Saturday visiting our fields, observing our community enjoying soccer together in the beautiful Southern California weather. As the day went on, I was especially touched by one group of youth about whom many may be unaware: our youth referees. Every year the Referee Staff trains a couple dozen of our youth as referees - for both the noncompetitive younger divisions and the older competitive divisions. We have youth serving as Referees in every division from 6U to 14U. I am always impressed to see someone who has played in AYSO but who is now excited to give back to the game as a Referee. These youth have a wealth of experience actually playing the game of soccer, so often they are very skilled at the Laws of the Game and recognizing how they work in practice.
If you know of a youth interested in refereeing, have them send us an e-mail to [email protected]. (PRO stands for Player Referee Organization.) We support them with training, customized equipment, and special activities. And if you have a youth serving as your Referee this weekend - or even one of your Coaches - let’s go out of our way this week to thank them.
