YOU make SOCCER HAPPEN With just under two months until the season kicks off on September 12, many of our divisions already have waitlists. Know how you can move a kid off the waitlist and onto a roster? By serving as a volunteer! Every grown-up who signs up to be a referee or coach means that new teams can be formed and more kids can play soccer. You might be thinking to yourself, “I don’t know how to be a coach or ref!” Don’t worry—we have all the training you need to become fully certified, and there are plenty of experienced volunteers to help along the way. Balanced Teams Assessments
If you are a player who is new to our 10U, 12U, or 14U divisions, this event is for you! Whether you are moving up from 8U, or coming into AYSO for the first time, this is a chance for you to meet coaches and show your skills. The Region will use these sessions to balance the teams for the fall season, which is one of AYSO core philosophies—it is important that you attend. |

Coach and Referee Training July and August are chock-full of opportunities to attend in-person courses that’ll get you all set to volunteer for the upcoming season. Need coach training for the fall season? Consider signing up for an upcoming Region 13 class or the Area 1C Coach Camp, which will offer all of the AYSO coaching classes.

Who Do We Appreciate? VOLUNTEERS!!
Ever look at our volunteer coaches and referees and think, “Good for them, but definitely not for me”? We completely understand! But did you know that some of our most important roles happen entirely off the field? It takes all kinds of talents to support our soccer league, and we have a place for everyone.
Region 13 is looking for new Volunteers to serve on our Board. Each position presents a range of opportunities and rewards, and each is essential to making our upcoming Fall season a success.

Trophies Lost in the Fires One of the many meaningful items families lost in last year’s Eaton fire were the trophies Region 13 players earned throughout their time in the program. As part of his Eagle Scout project, Region 13 alumnus Nathan Bowser is helping to restore those special memories by replacing the lost trophies. Letter from the Commissioner If you’re like me, as the World Cup winds down, you are asking yourself, “What am I going to do with my spare time now?” What a World Cup it has been! We cheered with strangers at watch parties, reveled in unexpected upsets, and commiserated with the fans whose teams didn’t go as far as they dreamed. I will always remember those Viking helmet-clad Norwegian fans, rowing together by the hundreds, pushing their team onward. It’s been an amazing six weeks of soccer.
Fortunately, soccer will continue in our little part of the world. Region 13 has over 2,000 kids ready to hit the fields this fall: that’s almost twice the number of players in the World Cup. And although we don’t actually need any Medical Trainers or Video Assistant Referees, we do need coaches, referees, team managers, and a slew of other volunteers to make our season go.
Although it may seem like we spend more time asking you to volunteer than actually playing soccer, I feel that AYSO's volunteer nature is genuinely its greatest strength. We don’t just sit in front of a TV or in the stadium stands to enjoy AYSO soccer. We get out there with the kids, on the field, right in the middle of the action. AYSO lets us all become part of the game - the same beautiful game that the entire world has been watching for six weeks.
I look forward to us bringing that game to every one of our children and families in Region 13. It’s going to be a great season.
